Baking fun and Giveaway

C and I have had some baking fun over the weekend as you might have seen on our #MySundayPhoto post this week. Well there is no excuse like Easter to get the mixer out and make some cakes.

C loves to help me bake and she is now getting good at telling me what ingredients I need next, being the official taste tester and of course helping clean up by licking the beater.

We made Easter cupcakes to share with family and friends, What do you think?

As baking is one of my hobbies and I blog about it a fair bit I thought that I would give away a selection of baking goodies to get you started or help you on your baking journey with children,

I think baking is a perfect rain day activity, and can be used to teach children new skills, as well as improve upon things like counting, and as a bonus you have something edible at the end to enjoy or to give away as gifts.

#MySundayPhoto – 05/04/15

Here is this weeks #MySundayPhoto,

I took it yesterday on my phone while I was baking some Easter cupcakes, C wanted to help. She helped to weight out the ingredients, then turned on the mixer, she was the official tester (The cake mix was “nice”), then she helped clean up with her mouth lol

I love the far off look on her face as she eats the cake mix.

Do your children like to bake?

Christmas eve eve

Today is Christmas eve eve and I can’t believe how much I still have to do!

I have fudge, shortbread, truffles and 2 different types of cupcakes still to make.
There are presents to wrap, toys to build and hampers to make.
Oh and 9 Christmas cake to ice and decorate, 6 of those are mini cakes so its no as bad as it sounds.

There are not enough hours in the day to get everything ready for Christmas, the house although clean isn’t tidy enough.
Luckily no one is coming to ours for Christmas this year so although the messy really annoying my mum I don’t think it will all be sorted out in the next 48 hours.

so my plan is as follows.

  • Go home from work at 7pm and eat some tea.
  • Put all the things that we have sorted out to be stored in the loft.
  • Get the baby ready for bed.
  • Put C to bed.
  • Make the truffle mix, and chill it.
  • Make the shortbread mix, and chill it.
  • Make the fudge and chill it.
  • Ice the Christmas cakes.
  • Bake the shortbread.
  • Cut the fudge and portion it out.
  • Decorate the Christmas cakes.

Christmas eve

  • Up, dressed and get to Morrisons for opening at 7 am.
  • Bake chocolate cupcakes.
  • Bake vanilla cupcakes.
  • Build the table and chairs for C.
  • Build the kitchen for C.
  • Make chocolate buttercream and decorate the chocolate cupcakes.
  • Make salted caramel buttercream and decorate some vanilla cupcakes.
  • Make coconut lime buttercream and decorate some vanilla cupcakes.
  • Make the hampers up and wrap them.
  • Breath, have some tea, a glass of prosecco and relax.
  • Get C ready for bed.
  • Put C to bed.
  • Go to bed and hopefully sleep.

So I don’t have too much to do, but while doing all of this I will also have C while she is awake.

The next 36 hours will be fun!

My favourite Christmas experiences

With Christmas being less than 11 weeks away all our preparations are well underway.
Presents have been bought, list are being written and plans are being made, we will soon be starting the deep clean of the house in preparation of decorating and I will be starting the Christmas cakes.
I love Christmas and have gotten my love of the season from my mum.

My mum just adores Christmas it is her favourite time of year and she will start singing Christmas songs as early as August,  We have now come to an agreement that she wont start until after my birthday in mid September ( although I usually have to remind her of this when she starts humming them)

We have a few traditions in our house that I love.  Continue reading

This weeks bakes

A few of months ago I had bought some Sugar and crumbs icing at the cake and bake show in Manchester and wanted to test it out.  I decided to take them into work for the hard working ladies ( and gents) on the front desk in Old Swan Walk in center because who doesn’t enjoy a cupcake, plus they were then able to give me a true opinion of the cakes and icing.

I usually have my family taste test my baking creations but I wanted a few independent views.

After trying them in work someone asked if I sell them, I said that it is really only a hobby but one lovely lady asked if I would bake some cupcakes for a her husbands 60th so that they could take them to on holiday with them, so I agreed. She asked for 3 different flavors, salted caramel, lemon and chocolate.

If only I’d known then how hot it would be now! England has only a few hot days a year but this year its boiling and butter cream isn’t the best in hot weather.

So on Thursday evening I baked 18 cupcakes for Jackie:-

6 Sicilian lemon cupcakes and then iced them with sugar and crumbs lemon drizzle butter cream icing, and decorated with a jelly lemon slice.

6 Vanilla cupcakes iced with Sugar and crumbs salted caramel butter cream icing, then drizzled with salted caramel sauce.

and finally

6 Chocolate cupcakes with chocolate butter cream icing and sprinkled with white chocolate stars.

As you can see I took pictures of the chocolate cupcakes in the box but forgot to get pictures of the lemon and salted caramel.

I baked more than 6 of each and gave a few of the salted caramel to my auntie as they are her favorites  I have a few leftover cakes and some butter creams still to decorate them to take to some other family members ( if anyone wants them)

The pictures above show 3 of the spare cakes, the 1st is lemon but I didn’t have time to pipe it properly so just put some on and forked it. The chocolate is just basically piped and the caramel is piped with a caramel drizzle.

C and Dan ate some plain vanilla cakes as well as some of the lemon cakes earlier as I’d made extra to check size and mixture amounts.

They seemed to enjoy them.

I’ll put the recipes into a different post when I have my broken laptop back.
They are really simple basic sponge cake recipes though.

Have you bakes anything thing week?

I’ve always loved baking, since I’ve had Baby C I havnt had much time to bake, only the odd batch of scones and muffins, but I will be doing more soon.

I went through pictures of cakes i’ve made in the past and decided to share some pictures with you. I have made all these cakes for various people over the last 5 years.

A very busy day

Today has been a busy day and its not over yet!

This morning Me and Baby C went to visit a Uni open day as I am applying to go and study nursing, I decided since it was just going to be me and Baby C going on the bus then using the Connecta instead of the buggy would be a good idea.

We got up and ready and left the house at 9 am, walked to the bus stop and got the bus into town to visit the uni, C had a little sleep while i registered and had a talk to come students about the uni and course. We then had an hour and half wait till the talk so we then to Starbucks for a venti Caramel Macchiato and to give C her bottle 😀

We then went on a stroll back to the uni sat outside in the sun for a little while while C had a kick 😀 and waited for the talk.Image

unfortunately C didn’t cope well in the talk, trying her dummy, bottle and bouncing her didn’t work so i left after only a few mins :(

As soon as i got on the bus home she fell asleep again

I decided since she was asleep to jump off the bus and go to the balloon shop that is on the way home and order the balloons for her christening, so that’s one more thing ticked off my list.

We got home and I made some cheese scones while Baby C sat in her highchair and “helped”

She’s having another nap now after her bottle and we will carry one having fun and baking some more later 😀
