Life got in the way…so here is October

I’m sorry that I’ve taken such a long gap in writing but life and uni have well and truly take over.
I don’t seem to have a spare second to think at the moment with lectures, assignments, clinical skills labs and exams to study for, on top of looking after C.

My parents were away on holiday for most of October so I didn’t have the support I usually do from them meaning I had even less time, although she did go to stay at her dad’s for half term week meaning I could concentrate on uni work a little more.

C has been amazing through all the recent change of me starting uni as well her days in nursery going up to two full days and one morning. I cant believe how grown up she is now.

so I should catch you up on what we have been up to over the last month or so.

October started with me and my best friend Danii hopping in the car one Friday evening and travelling to London to see the Happy potter and the cursed child play on the Saturday!
OMG I LOVED IT!

if you get a chance you need to see it, #keepthesecret
We had booked the tickets nearly a year before so had been waiting a long time for it.

In the middle of October Sam and I took C to crazy golf for the 1st time, she wasn’t overly impressed and I think it was a bit much for her at only 3 and 3/4, but I got some cute videos of her trying to hit the ball.
wpid-wp-1478893691046.jpg

Then we started to get ready for Halloween 😀
We painted paper plates to make pumpkins for the windows. C loves to paint so it was a great activity and kept her entertained for a little while.
wpid-wp-1478893940755.jpg wpid-wp-1478893804068.jpg

C and I went pumpkin picking to church hall farm not too far from Liverpool. I was a cold but lovely day and I got some of my favourite pictures of C this year, her playing in the hay and jumping about having fun.
We got 4 lovely pumpkins to carve ( 3 for home and one for her dad’s house)
C rode on a donkey, and had loads of fun running on the bales of hay.
wpid-wp-1478894203471.jpg wpid-wp-1478894203459.jpgwpid-wp-1478894072490.jpg

I love this picture :D

I love this picture :D

Afterwards we went to MacDonald’s for tea and C had a lovely rainbow painted on her face.

wpid-wp-1478894203467.jpg

C has started swimming lessons and already achieved her duckling award 1 😀 she loves swimming, and is already trying to do it alone ( she’s not quite there yet thought)
wpid-wp-1478894306874.jpg

We carved our pumpkins for Halloween

wpid-wp-1478893383384.jpg
and decorated outside the house, making a “crime scene” using chalk
wpid-wp-1478893367919.jpg

Then on Halloween C got to wear her costume to nursery before trick or treating in the evening, she chose to be a pirate this year. She loved trick or treating, running to the houses on her own ( while me and danii waited at the end of the path) saying ” trick or treat” and ” happy Halloween”
wpid-wp-1478893292070.jpg

She got so many sweets that she doesn’t need to buy more till next year!
wpid-wp-1478893312614.jpg

Oh and in big news after waiting over 3 years I FINALLY have a new bed, It’s a king size ottoman style so plenty of accessible storage and is so comfy 😀

October was a fun month!!!

My parents returned from holiday at the start of November and I have been busy with lectures and writing assignments that are due this month, one 3500 word essay as well as a 1500 word annotated bibliography, both due on the 25th November.

I promise to update more as I am mainly keeping this as an online diary so C can see what she did and liked when she was younger, and so family can see what we have been up too.

Our summer holidays…so far

It’s nearly half way through the summer holidays but they havent really been that different for me as a parent as I have still been working until recently. I finished work last week as I’m going to start my Nursing degree in September, i’ve left a few weeks early to spend time with C and have a little holiday in Towyn wales at the end of the month with her and Sam.

C hasnt been in nursery as she goes to a term time nursery so my mum and other family members have been stepping in to look after her.

We have done a few things up to now this summer …

Greenacres animal park, Deeside

C and I went to Greenacres animal park in Deeside with a few friends and their kids a few weeks ago. The kids loved seeing the animals, touching a few in the pets corner area like snakes, rabbits and feeding baby goats.

The fair rides weren’t the greatest but they kids liked them, even if they got bored waiting for one of the 3 attendants that were operating all the rides.

The weather was fabulous and all the kids really got on well 😀

 wpid-wp-1471941686739.jpg wpid-wp-1471941703254.jpg wpid-wp-1471941719851.jpg wpid-wp-1471941737588.jpg wpid-wp-1471941753494.jpg wpid-wp-1471941787832.jpg

Fun in the park.

A few times we have been over to the park for a play in the play area. C loves it and makes new friends everytime ( although I tent to only take photo’s of her as I wouldn’t like people taking pictures of her without my permission)

She never wants to leave but is always too tired to walk home lol

wpid-wp-1471941897205.jpg wpid-wp-1471941910320.jpg wpid-wp-1471941918627.jpgwpid-wp-1471960839239.jpg

Break out

Sam and I try to do something just us two on or around the 20th of the month he planned last months date night so I got to plan this month.

I took him to Break out in Liverpool to do the room Classified  this was his 1st time but the second time I had been. ( read about my last time here)

I’m not telling you what happens in the room but it included a lot of locks and some very ingenious hiding places. We had a great time and managed to break out with 4 minutes 9 seconds to go ( with a little help from the lovely lady behind the tv screen)

wpid-wp-1471941969799.jpg

Playtime at home!

wpid-wp-1471941881658.jpg wpid-wp-1471941983604.jpg wpid-wp-1471941864464.jpg

We have played, tried on holiday clothes and explored the house and garden 😀

Food!

This summer C has been to a couple of Birthday parties, we have had meals out with family and friends and of course donuts 😀 all a child’s favourite things.

This is C at a family meal with an adult’s chocolate cake….her uncle Ste got her kids one :p

wpid-wp-1471941806565.jpg

Exploring our city ( for free!)

We had a love day out last week, even though the weather was rubbish we decided to go on a day out and explore Liverpool.

Sam, C and I all got up and dressed, had some breakfast then drove into town.

We parked in St johns then went into the shopping centre, there was a new food place opening up in the food court called Doughocracy that was offering free Pizza on Friday and £1 pizza on Saturday and Sunday. We queued for a while (45 mins) for free pizza, and it was worth it. pizza was a 10″ create your own type and cooked in about 3 minutes.

wpid-wp-1471942009305.jpg

We ate then went to Dunkin’ Donuts were we got a box of a dozen to take to our friend later that night. C had once while we were there as she seem to have a second “sweet” stomach and no matter how full she is she still has room for dessert lol

wpid-wp-1471942025279.jpg

After that we went to the world museum, starting at the top we worked our way from dinosaurs to the natural world, colours to the aquarium. C loved to look at everything and even got to try on some dress up ( so did I because Sam put it on my head while I was helping C and too ka sneeky picture).

wpid-wp-1471942040357.jpg wpid-wp-1471942053040.jpg wpid-wp-1471942060712.jpg wpid-wp-1471942077047.jpg wpid-wp-1471942087492.jpg

We go on holiday in a week so will have a ton more pictures then. I hope to get back into blogging more after the holidays as it is a little difficult to get things done with a 3 year old, plus a new relationship.

Once everything is settled and I start at uni I will try and blog on here and on my student one at least once a week.

May- Our month ahead

Seriously I can’t believe that it’s May already.
It feels like only a couple of weeks ago I was on holiday in sunny Florida but that was all the way back in January.

May looks to be a busy month for us, we have some exciting things happening.

New York

In just a few days I’ll be jetting off to New York with Danii for a fabulous girls holiday.
With so many things to see and do, I’ll probably need a holiday when I come home. Luckily I get home on a Tuesday morning. I will be able to pick C up from nursery and see her for a few house before she goes to stay at her dad’s that night (she doesn’t every Tue and Thu night), so I can get a decent nights sleep to recover.

The playhouse!

On Friday 13th ( yep, May has a Friday the 13th…unlucky or not?) C’s playhouse should be arriving. I really hope that it arrives in the morning, so it will be all set up for her coming home.
She is so excited about it coming and askes every morning ” Is my house here yet?”

We went to B&Q the other day to get top soil for sorting the garden and had a look at the paint for her house. She wanted yellow and pink so we bought Valspar paint samples in Dog rose and sun sparkles.

wpid-wp-1461948660081.jpg

The main walls will be yellow and the door pink, I also need to get white for the trim and window.
Her house is going to look so cute, we are going to put her kitchen into there ( in the background on the picture) so all the colours will match.
I’ve also ordered a little picnic bench for her “patio”. My brother went a little OTT when making the foundation for her house so the simple “little” playhouse that we had planned is now a 7 foot by 6 foot house with a patio, white picket fence and picnic bench.

Yes some might say that my little miss is a little bit spoilt but she as is only tiny for a the shortest time I will spoilt her, she is my only baby so I will.

C’s new pen pal

When I was 5 I got a pen pal in Florida, USA. We wrote to each other, sent letter, parcels and videos, we even got to meet a couple of times and stayed in there house for a coupe of days on one of our first holidays in Florida. I loved talking to Andrea and it helped to teach me about different cultures as well.

I saw an offshoot page from a group I’m in on facebook and just knew that I needed to sign C up. It’s a page for people to get pen pals for their kids. I know that C is only 3 but she loves to get post and open things so I have signed her up and arranged for her to have a pen pal.

Until she learns to read and write she can send drawing and I can help her with the reading of anything. I think that it will really encourage her to learn more, she will try to write the letters in her name and things already. I believe that it’s never to early to encourage children to learn to read and write.

I’ll update you when we send and receive our 1st letters ( drawings)

Important events

Mum’s birthday is later this month so we will need to get some presents and arrange something very nice for her as she does so much for us.

Over a month since my last post.

I’ve just realised that it’s been over a month since I wrote anything, I just haven’t had the motivation to write and didn’t want to write just for the sake of it so took a little break.

So here is what’s been happening over the last month…

Everyone in our house has had coughs and colds over the last couple of weeks which we are all finally getting over. I’ve had tonsillitis twice in 2 weeks as I didn’t finish my 1st course of penicillin V so had to have another course when it came back with a vengeance, 8 days into the 10 day course and finally starting to feel a little better.

I got a new phone as my renewal was due and my old HTC M8 was on its last legs, I went for the Samsung S7 on EE, I got quite a good upgrade deal including 10 gb of data and was able to up on my NHS discount so get an extra 20% off each months bill.

I got a new laptop as well in preparation for starting Uni in September. My old one was 3 years old, the casing was cracked and it was running very slowly as the memory was low.
I still need to clear off all the important things little documents and photo’s onto an external hard drive before I will give it to my brother to use

C seems to be growing sooo quickly, I swear that I blink and she’s shot up again.
We got a letter through a few weeks ago that contained a booklet about what she should be doing at 3 as they don’t do a 3 year review in our area.
It listed things like building towers and walking on tiptoes, it also said that children her age should have a vocabulary of about 300 words, well I know she has a lot more words in her range than that. she comes out with some whoppers such as ” smother” and “assistance” and used them in the correct context. ( “Please may I smother granddad?” :s maybe I should worry a little lol)

here is the little beauty now

wpid-wp-1459851224733.jpg wpid-wp-1459851204748.jpg wpid-wp-1459851193038.jpg

I go to New York in less than 4 weeks and i’m going to collect the tickets today! 😀 So excited.

We are getting the garden ready for summer, all the flags have been lifted and we have someone coming out next week to give us a quote on getting false grass laid.
I’ve also been looking at playhouses for C and Tom ( my bro) came in yesterday with a plan on how to run a wire from the conservatory to the playhouse to give it lights ( he is an electrician so I wouldn’t expect anything less really)

Mum also wants a gazebo, new furniture and a bbq so I really hope the weather is good this summer.

I Promise to post more but please follow us on Instagram, FB and twitter as I tend to update on there with current pictures etc.

Wellness dog food review

Anyone who has seen out previous dog food reviews will know that Finley was our hoover dog who used to eat anything and everything ( possibly part of the reason that we lost him earlier this year) while Freddie is a very fussy pedigree pooch.

Freddie has been asked recently to try out a new food that is being stocked by Pets at home it’s called Wellness and is a grain free dog food. It contains no Wheat, Soya, Corn, Artificial colours, flavours or preservatives, so is better for your dogs digestive system as they are designed to eat a meat rich diet.

We were sent both wet and dry food as he currently is mix fed, here are our thoughts on Wellness Core dog food.

Wet food
According to the Pets at home website the wet food it is available in 5 different flavours :-
– CORE Chunky Centres Flavoured with Beef, Lamb and White Sweet Potatoes.
-CORE Chunky Centres Flavoured with Chicken, Chicken Liver and Spinach.
-CORE Chunky Centres Flavoured with Turkey, Duck and White Sweet Potatoes.
-CORE Chunky Centres Flavoured with Lamb, Turkey and Kale.
-CORE Chunky Centres Flavoured with Tuna, Chicken and Kale.

We got two each of the chicken and beef flavours, each pot contained a smooth pate with a chunky centre. Freddie really enjoyed both flavours, he couldn’t get enough.
2015-12-30 10.36.02

I really liked the look of it, you could see the meaty chunks and could tell that it was proper meat, and I thought that the portion sizes were good for a dog of his size.

The pack of 4 x 170g is £7.95 so it’s more expensive than our regular dog food and with him needing to eat at least 1 pot a day it would cost us quite a bit to move him to this food full-time.

As it is grain it would be very good for dogs that suffer with allergies or sensitivities.

Dry food

The Wellness grain free core dry food we received was ocean flavour and Freddie wasn’t so keen on it, he usually has chicken or beef dry food so he took some convincing to try it. I think that if we had tried the original he would have woofed it down (pun intended)

2015-12-30 10.36.14

Over the course of the last  week we mixed this with his old food as is suggested when changing any dog food. He had no problems with it at all.

It was quite small kibble pieces so very easy for a dog of Freddie’s size to eat, even if he wasn’t too keen on the flavour.

2015-12-30 10.37.14

The dry food comes in 4 varieties, Ocean, Original, Reduced fat and Small breed. Like the wet food it is all grain free so good for allergies but is high in proteins so very good for your dogs health.

Again this food is more expensive as it doesn’t contains the grains as fillers so a 1.8kg bag of the Ocean is £12.99 in Pets at home.

Overall I think that Wellness is a well made and though through dog food and would be great for a food sensitive dog.
If Freddie was ever ill I would consider buying this as it contains fewer allergens that could upset him.

*Disclaimer : – I was sent a free sample of dog food for the purpose of this review, All opinions are my own (well Fred helped on this one) and are unbiased*

Well on with my post…

Happy Christmas eve!
So tonight the big man himself arrives to bring our bundles of joy their gifts.
Have they been good?
Does it matter anymore?

This probably one of the busiest days in the year for parents, I know it is for me.
As you have to do all the everyday stuff such as feed, dress and entertain your kids all while making sure that preparations for the big day are sorted.
I always have a list as long as my arm left on Christmas eve, all I can say is that I’m thankful that at least this year it doesn’t involve building a toy kitchen that took HOURS!

Here is how my day hopefully will run:-

  • Get up MEGA early to go last minute food shopping for fresh things like French sticks at about 6 am with my mum, leaving the hopefully still sleeping toddler in the sort of capable hands of her uncle ( also probably sleeping)
  • Get home, unpack, change into uniform and leave again.
  • Get work for 8.30am until 2pm.
  • at 9am on the dot go to the butchers for meat ( i’m lucky that my supervisor will let me nip out as its round the corner)
  • Go home to do my list of last minute things, make food for Christmas day etc.
  • Go to Costco to pick up platters.
  • Dropping off presents and food for Christmas day at Granddad’s. ( unless mum gets my cousin Ste to do it)
  • Open Christmas eve box with C
  • Picky bits tea in the evening with the family and my best friend.
  • Change beds.
  • Bathtime
  • Try and get overexcited toddler to sleep.
  • Load car with presents for the next morning.
  • Drink!
  • Get out C’s presents and arrange them in the livingroom.
  • Bedtime!

Hopefully I will get at least a few hours sleep as if you have read my other #12daysofparenting posts you will know that Christmas day is a busy one for use.

Merry Christmas!!!
to you and all your loved ones!

On the eleventh day of parenting…. Last minute shopping

Nearly there now people!!!
Only the dreaded Christmas food shop to combat, every year the shops seem to get busier, I honestly dread stepping into a supermarket at this time of year, especially if I have to do it with a toddler in tow.

No matter how much I plan to get all my shopping sorted, wrapped and under the tree.
I inevitably still end up trying to buy presents and get them wrapped at the last minute.
I have a couple of presents that I have ordered and need to be collected from Tesco, then need to wrap them.

Don’t even get me started on the food shopping!
I need to go early on Christmas eve morning to get some things that just can’t be bought any earlier, things like French sticks, loaves of bread and meat for Christmas day evening.

I still have a list of shopping that I need to do, but after being told of queues to get into the local supermarket car park, and huge waits at the tills I can’t face the shops during daylight hours.
I am planning of going in the middle of the night when everyone else is sleeping, I’ll leave my dad and brother to listen out for the toddler, and me and mum can go at like 5 am to get it all!

When do you do your Christmas food shopping?
Are you ready for Christmas now?

On the tenth day of parenting….Parenting in December

To me with my limited parenting knowledge, well i’ve only been at it for 3 years, parenting in December seems to be completely different from any other time of the year as you have the help of Father Christmas and his elves to encourage your kids to be good.

Each morning when our elf Happy comes back from his trip to the north pole he brings a chocolate coin if C was a good girl the day before because Father Christmas sent it with him as a reward for her.

wpid-imag5367.jpg

At nearly 3 I believe that she can understand the consequences of her actions, and that not being good means not getting an extra treat. The start of December until Christmas is a long time for a child the using the bluff of not getting presents will be easily forgotten by such a small person.

Now it doesn’t always work but I am a true believer is sticking to your word, so don’t tell my daughter something that I wouldn’t do. So I tell her that if she isn’t good then Father Christmas will put her on the naughty list, and that means that Happy won’t bring her a chocolate coin when he comes back from his nightly visit.

Threatening that Father Christmas won’t bring her any toys seems a little silly as I know she will get them (and she has only asked for one thing off FC this year ) and it mean’s that I lied to her, which I don’t want to do.

What do you tell your kids?
Do you use Father Christmas to encourage good behaviour?

On the ninth day of parenting….Life doesn’t stop at Christmas
(wow day 9! are you still with me? :p )

What’s you favourite Christmas song?

For some Christmas is just another normal day, by this I mean that normal everyday things still need to happen, just because it’s Christmas doesn’t mean that the baby won’t want to be fed or the kids won’t argue. In fairness there will probably be more arguments like” he stole my new toy” or “it’s my go and she wont let me” and not just from the kids.

Parenting is a 24 hour 365 day a year job with no real time off, because even if you aren’t with your kids you are still thinking and worrying about them, and if your family is anything like mine then people also have to work on Christmas day, this year I will be working Christmas evening.

The world keeps turning and services still need to run, so while your unwrapping your presents and tucking into your turkey. Spare a thought for those who are in work when they would much rather be celebrating with their families.
